Weekly Family Email
Week 43
June 14th, 2019

It’s hard to believe that the 2018-2019 school year has just drawn to a close! For those of us in the preschool, this might mean a new classroom and teacher on Monday, or it might mean new friends joining them in their current rooms. For our elementary and middle students, it means the school year is done, and they’ve advanced to the next grade! Many of our students will join us for summer camp on Monday, but for those who will be spending the summer elsewhere, we wish you safe and happy travels, and we look forward to seeing you again in the fall.

We had an incredibly busy, exciting, and–yes–emotional, week around here. Our Kindergartners graduated, and their teachers gave them the most beautiful send-off. Then our 8th graders graduated today, an emotional moment for all of us. They are our first middle school graduates, and we could not be more proud of them, or more excited to see the paths they take.

We also had our field day today, complete with bouncy house, face painting, obstacle courses, bean bag toss, hot dogs, and more. See photos below: we all had a great time!

Summer camp begins Monday, and preschool and summer camp parents will receive an email regarding Monday morning plans. See below for further information regarding rosters. We kick things off with Aloha Week!

As the curtain comes down on the 2018-2019 school year, Dr. Harris, Dr. Nykwest, PWA’s administrators, and all our teachers would like to thank you for sharing your children with us. It was our joy and great privilege to teach them, to help them grow, to witness their milestones, to share their triumphs–and to learn from them in return. The time we spend with them makes us who we are, and we are grateful for each moment of it.

We look forward to quality time this summer, and to many reunions this fall! If we won’t get to see you in the fall, we hope you’ll come back and visit us, and let us know how you’re doing. You’ll always be welcome here!

Thank you parents, sharing this journey with us.
On Monday, eligible students (who have reached their birthday) will move up to the next level of preschool! If you made a teacher request, your child will go to that classroom. If you didn’t request a specific teacher, you’ll find rosters placed in the lobby on Monday. All current Jr K students will move upstairs as rising Kindergartners–students who are still 4 will have their own class.

If your child recently had a birthday or moved into a new classroom, they will remain with their current teacher.

Summer camp gets underway tomorrow for rising K and above! Our theme next week is “Aloha Summer,” and students will do Hawaiian-themed crafts and activities.

Students rising K and above will go to Tall Oaks Pool on MONDAY. If you have a lake ridge association pass, please send it with your child that day! Students should bring bathing suits, towels, and water bottles, as well as sunscreen.

Our 2s preschoolers will have waterplay on Monday as well, so please send them with sunscreen applied, and bathing suits on! Don’t forget the water shoes!

3s will have water play on WEDNESDAY.
Our 8th graders graduated from our middle school today! Tyler Gray, Cameron Williams, and Tahmid Mirza (who sadly was unable to attend) earned their diplomas in a ceremony witnessed by their parents, family members–and the entire elementary and middle school.

These young gentlemen are bright, kind, energetic, funny, and wonderfully compassionate. We know they have bright futures ahead of them, and we are so proud of how far they’ve come with us. Tyler started at PWA as a preschooler, and has been with us ever since! Cameron joined us two years ago and quickly became a beloved classmate, student, and friend known for his kindness and great sense of humor. Tahmid was new to our school this year, and although PWA was a big change from his old school, he managed to find his way, make friends, and demonstrate how very bright he is.

We know these grads will go far, and we are so proud to have been a part of their journeys.

Our Kindergarten students had their graduation ceremony on June 11th, and it was such a lovely event. We all laughed and cried, and listen to them sing together one last time.

Huge thanks to Saira Saghir and Kimberley Pfaff for being the extraordinary teachers they are. Thanks also to Rebecca Holland, our student teacher, for choosing our school as the place she wanted to learn from. And, of course, thanks to all the parents, who have been so wonderfully supportive of these K classrooms. It was a joy to share that special evening with you!

The PTC would like to thank all the parents and families who contributed to our fundraising drive this year, either by donating, attending one of our spirit nights, or purchasing an item through one of our special sales. We’re proud to say that we raised just over $2600.

These funds will go towards new computers for classrooms, to be purchased for the upcoming school year! We’ll keep you posted as we start to implement purchases.

Look for more from us in September–we hope you’ll join us in the fall!

Field Day was a whole lot of fun! Our students enjoyed water play, a bounce house, obstacle courses, face painting, and lots of time in the fresh air today. Special thanks to Ms. Noh, Ms. Loreto, and Ms. Veronica for their help planning and coordinating the activities and food!
