Weekly PWA Family Email
Week 21
January 11th, 2019

Brrrrr! 2019 may have started off spring-like, but it sure got cold fast! Snow is in the forecast for this weekend, so please keep an eye on the weather, and on school closings. We’ll send a text via our text message alert system should weather affect our school schedule on Monday. (If you haven’t signed up for that yet, by the way, please do! Text PWA to 33222 to opt in).

It’s hard to believe that it’s already time to start thinking about the 2019-2020 school year–but it is! Our 8th graders will visit Woodbridge High next week for an informational session, and all of our students Preschool 2s and up will visit their rising grade classrooms on Monday. Parents will also get a chance to check out their child’s rising grade on Wednesday, January 16th by visiting between 9 and 11 am. See below for more information. And remember–if you register for the 2019-2020 school year next week, you’ll receive 50% off the registration fee!

Meanwhile, we are all enjoying the atmosphere around here–it’s international month, and the school is full of beautiful displays from all over the world. This is one of our favorite times of year, culminating in our International Day celebration on February 1st.

Stay warm this weekend, and please keep an eye on school closings. Remember that if Prince William County Schools close, we will do the same, but be open for childcare starting as close to 6 am as possible. If the Federal Government closes (for weather!) we will be closed altogether.
International Month is in full swing! Our students are learning about their classroom countries, and the hallways are decorated with items from all over the world. It’s such a delight to see our teachers and school families share their cultural heritage.

Do you have something you’d like to add to our displays? If so, please feel free to bring it in; we’ll see that items are returned to you on International Day, Feb. 1st. The countries and territories represented this year are:

We’d like to welcome student teacher Rebecca Holland to Ms. Kim’s kindergarten class! Ms. Becca is working on her teaching degree from the University of West Florida, and has a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Richmond. We’re delighted to have her with us for the next couple of months!

Stop by the Lake Ridge Chick-Fil-A between 5 and 8 pm on Tuesday, January 29th, and 20% of the proceeds from your meal will go to PWA! Vouchers will be available at the front desk, and attached to this email. And yes–you can use them at the drive through! Proceeds go towards our fund for enhancing technology in the classrooms.

On Monday, January 14th, our students grades Pre-k 2 and above will visit their rising grade classrooms. The younger students will do an art activity in the classrooms, while older students will learn about the curriculum and classroom routines in the grade above.

Then, on Wednesday January 16th, it will be the parents’ turn to stop in for a visit! Come by your child’s rising grade classrooms and see the teacher in action! You can also learn more about the curriculum, books, and routines from the office.

And next week only, if you register for next year and pay book and enrollment fees, you’ll receive 50% off registration fees!
On Thursday, January 17th, our 8th graders will take a field trip to Woodbridge High School for an informational session. It’s hard to believe these kids will be off to high school next year!
Join us on Friday, January 25th from 5:30 until 7:30 pm for a night of screen-free family fun! We’re putting on a Lego Night at PWA, and we’ll have various Lego challenges set up tables for you and your kids to complete together. See the flyer attached below for more information.

Hot dogs and refreshments will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!

Coding with Kids features Robotics for Little Coders (grades K-2), and Minecraft Server Modding (grades 3-5). Please see flyer for times and prices. Classes start Tuesday after school!

Tennis starts up again after school on January 29th! You can register your child by clicking below. The Winter session runs from Jan. 29th – March 5th, with the Spring session starting on March 19th.
