Weekly PWA Family Email
Week 17
December 14th, 2018

We had an action-packed week around here–including a rather unexpected snow day! This week, we also had our preschool and kindergarten Winter Concert, ugly sweater day, and field trips for grades 4-8th to deliver homemade cookies to local firefighters and police stations.

The snow day made more apparent than ever the fact that our text message alert system is really the best way to reach everyone fast. If you haven’t signed up yet, please do! Just text PWA to 33222.

Thursday the 20th is the last day of school before the winter break. If you plan to sign your child up for care over the break, please be advised that MONDAY is the last day to do so.

If you haven’t donated yet to our teacher gift card pool, please do so by Tuesday! See below–and help make a staff member’s day!

Have a wonderful weekend.

BRING A LITTLE HOLIDAY CHEER TO OUR TEACHERS AND STAFF THIS SEASON!

The PTC is putting together a special show of appreciation for our teachers and staff members this holiday season, and we need your help.

We ask that you please contribute a gift card from any establishment, online or otherwise, for us to put on our teachers’ gift tree this year. At our staff appreciation breakfast on December 19th, the teachers and staff members will get to select the gift cards of their choice from the tree.

We ask that all gift cards be in the amount of $10. You may purchase more than one, but as long as each card is worth $10 we’ll be able to distribute them equitably. You may of course provide a separate personal gift for your child’s classroom teacher.

Thanks for helping us show our staff members how much they mean to us, and how much we value the work they do! Cards may be dropped off in the bucket at the front desk no later than TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18th.

Did you film the preschool 3s performance during the winter concert? A parent who wasn’t able to get here in time would really appreciate it if someone was willing to share. Please contact Dr. Nykwest, and she’ll pass along the information.

Just be sure to sign up no later than Monday, December 17th, so that we can plan staffing. We cannot accept signups after that date.

Winter Break Child Care Fees:

For all students enrolled in BOTH before and aftercare: $30 per day
For students not enrolled in before AND aftercare: $50 per day

Starting in January, Coding with Kids will offer after school classes for kids K-5th grade! Classes include Minecraft Server Modding, and Robotics for Little Coders!

Our fundraiser continues until January, so there’s still time to shop online. Just visit www.yankeecandlefundraising.com (http://www.yankeecandlefundraising.com/) , put in our code of 999987485, and start shopping!
Please remember that school begins promptly at 8:15 in the elementary and middle wing, and parents should exit that side no later than 8:10. Please do not disrupt class by expecting to speak to your child’s teacher after 8:15. If an important message needs to be relayed to her regarding your child’s day, let the office know and we’ll see that she gets it in a timely manner, in a way that does not disrupt other students’ learning time.

On the preschool side, things get underway between 8:30 and 9:00. If you arrive later than that, your child’s teacher has likely already begun circle time or lessons, and has a full class. Again, the office will happily relay any message your might have so that your child’s teacher can remain engaged with her students.
Spotted at school this week…..
Our Preschool, Jr K, and Kindergarten classes put on their Winter Concerts last night!

Kids decorated classrooms, worked on projects, and helped us celebrate Ms. Pam’s birthday.

Our 4th-8th graders visited local police and fire stations to bring cookies.

With the colder weather, an increasing number of parents have been parking in the fire lane in front of the school doors. While we understand the temptation, the fire lane cannot be used for parking during dropoff or pickup. Doing so creates numerous hazards, blocks other parents from moving through the lot, and creates a dangerous situation in general. If you’ll be entering the school, please park in a space.

Also, remember that traffic moves ONE WAY through our parking lot, counterclockwise around the central picnic area. Please do not drive the wrong way through the lot.

It’s not too early to start thinking about next school year! If you register for the 2019-2020 school year during the week of January 14th-18th, you’ll receive half off the $90 registration fee!
