Week 5
The weather is getting cooler, and it appears we’ve gotten the last goodies of the year from our gardens. We are grateful for the abundance of vegetables and beautiful flowers our patch of earth has gifted us this year, and we look forward to planting again with the students in the spring. Meanwhile, fall is right around the corner–it starts officially on Monday! We look forward to colorful leaves, cooler temps–and our special events, including our Principal’s Scholar Awards, fall festival, and first progress reports.
Our students had an exciting and enriching week. Our preschoolers and kindergartners talked about Community Helpers, and our Jr K and K had a chance to visit our neighborhood fire station, O.W.L. V.F.D. Station 14. The firefighters were so gracious in welcoming out students.
Our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders took a field trip to the Fair Oaks Science Center today, and it was awesome. See below for pics.
Thanks to our community helper parents who came in to speak with our students this week, and to those of you who chaperoned our field trips! It was great to have you along.

We will wrap up our donation drive for the Bahamas early next week. So far, we’ve only raised about $200. We’d really like to send more! Please donate if you can. Any amount helps.

Please remind your students that uniforms are a part of our school culture, and that when we signed up for PWA, we signed up to wear them! Uniforms (collared blue or white shirt, navy slacks, shorts, or skirts, and jumpers) must be worn Monday through Thursday. T-shirts, jeans, or other non-uniform items may only be worn on Fridays.
Our First Principal’s Scholar Awards of the year will be held Wednesday, September 25th at 9 am in the school gym. This month’s theme is “Fairness.” Recipients’ parents will be notified, and members of the PWA community are always invited to attend. The ceremony lasts about 10 minutes, and we recognize all our recipients (Jr K and up) who are chosen by their classmates and teachers.

Parents are encouraged to purchase lunch packets rather than single lunches–the price per lunch drops when you buy more at a time. If you want to purchase daily lunch for your child, the total cost is $80 per month.
Big thanks to our local fire department, O.W.L. V.F.D., Station 14, for hosting our Jr K and K students this week, and showing them the fire trucks. The kids had so much fun, and learned a lot about our local community helpers.
