Week 4
We had a terrific week 4 here at PWA, with students fully engaged in their classroom routines, with one another, and their teachers. It’s wonderful to see so much active learning throughout the building each day.
We had a nice turnout for back-to-school night, and we hope that those of you in attendance had a chance to talk with your child’s teacher and learn about his or her classroom, routines, and expectations. We hope you also had the opportunity to meet our after school program coordinators, and to sign up for some fun activities for your children. Several activities like tennis and soccer start up next week! There’s still time to sign up–just stop by the front office.
Our Bahamas fundraiser will continue into next week. We’ve raised about $200 so far–please help us raise more! We’ll donate to the Red Cross fund for Hurricane Dorian at the end of next week. You can make a donation by cash, check, or charge at the front desk. This fundraiser is a good way for us to model the importance of giving to others in need, and to help our students view themselves as part of an interconnected global community.

By now we’ve all seen images of the destruction Hurricane Dorian has wrought on the beautiful Bahamas. Several of our PWA families have been touched by this crisis, and our hearts are with them and their loved ones.
Please give a donation of any size towards our students’ efforts to raise funds for the people of the Bahamas. You can make your donation in the front office by cash, credit or debit card, or check, and we’ll collect funds all through next week. We’ll send the full donation the following week, as time is of the essence.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, and for modeling global citizenship and compassion for our students.
Please use extra caution when driving through our parking lot–at any time of day. The speed limit is 10 mph, and traffic always moves one way around the middle picnic area.
The first PTC meeting of the year will be held Thursday, September 19th at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria. All parents–from infants and toddlers to middle school–are welcome to join!
The PTC raises funds for special initiatives at school, and for special events. Last year, the PTC organized numerous spirit nights at local restaurants, and put on a fantastic pancake breakfast here at the school. They also organized a wonderfully successful Yankee Candle fundraiser. All funds went towards new laptops for classrooms. The PTC also generously paid for our 8th grade graduation trip to King’s Dominion.
The PTC is a lot of fun, and it’s a great way to play a role in shaping your child’s educational environment. We hope to see you at our next meeting!

Parents are encouraged to purchase lunch packets rather than single lunches–the price per lunch drops when you buy more at a time. If you want to purchase daily lunch for your child, the total cost is $80 per month.
