Weekly Family Newsletter November 18, 2022 Week 14

Thanksgiving is almost here! PWA will be open Monday-Wednesday of next week, and closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the holiday. We had a great week at PWA as we prepare to head into the Thanksgiving holiday. Our students have been talking about Thanksgiving and its origins, and we’ve had many great discussions about what we’re thankful for. Our 5th graders and middle schoolers enjoyed a trip to the Museum of Natural History in DC, and you’ll find some pics below. Special thanks to all the parents who chaperoned and joined us for this trip!

The weather has turned chilly, so please be sure to swap our your child’s extra clothes at school with warm items, and send your child to school with a coat so they can enjoy the crisp outdoors!

This week we hosted a pre-Thanksgiving feast for our teachers and staff members. Huge thanks to Chef Veronica for preparing a wonderful meal, and to Dr. Harris for putting it together as a treat for our amazing staff. It was so nice to see everyone mingle and enjoy themselves outside of school hours!

PWA will be open on November 23rd, and closed the 24th and 25th for the Thanksgiving holiday. We know that many of our school families will be away for all or part of next week, however, and we are looking ahead to plan accordingly, especially for the 23rd. Please take a moment to fill out this form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdaXprujtFfBV-oIxrPaI5bI5TyfnTS4mN7QP57gR5txnOPPQ/viewform) regarding your child’s attendance on November 23rd to assist us with this process.

Have a wonderful weekend, PWA families!

Our Academic Calendar can be found below. Please note that it is subject to change, so be sure to refer to the link in the most recent weekly email for information.

At PWA we believe in the importance of community, and that supporting one another makes all of us stronger. One of our school families is seeking help for their child and so we are spreading the word. We hope you will, too!

The Burckner family has a child in our elementary program, and a daughter, Emma, who is 2. Emma has Galloway-Mowat Syndrome, an extremely rare genetic condition. GAMOS is so rare that there are fewer than 100 known cases. As you can imagine, this has made diagnosis and treatment incredibly difficult. You can learn more about little Emma and her condition here: https://www.gallowaymowat.com/meet-emma

Emma’s parents hope that she can become mobile with the assistance of a robotic device that will help her walk, and they are raising funds to purchase it for her. A donation of any size will help the Burckners give Emma the opportunity to explore and enjoy the world around her.

You’ll find a link to the GoFundMe page below.

As always, we are deeply grateful for your generosity and support of our shared school community.

Thank you, PWA families!
