Week 23

We had a short but productive week here at school, as our students prepare for International Day next week, and for the end of the second grading period. It’s hard to believe we are more than halfway through the school year already! Monday is a Teachers’ Workday, though childcare will be available for those who need it. Please see the link below.

Next week will be a spirit week, with lots of fun activities and themes for our students to celebrate as we prepare for International Day. You’ll find the spirit themes below, and you can check with your child’s teacher about any variations in their particular classrooms. But Tuesday will be a day for snacks or items from your child’s classroom country; any items brought in will be carefully distributed by the teacher, and must be nut-free. Friday is International Day, and we’ll celebrate with a school-wide Zoom. The office will send out an email with details on how you can log in if you’d like to see our elementary students talk about their classroom countries.

As you’ll see below, our fundraiser continues for our math and science teacher, Victor Bannerman, and his family. We are so thankful to those of you who’ve donated so far. The support of our PWA community has been so heartwarming. Please feel free to help us spread the word and share the fundraiser!

Our 100th day of school is coming up, and we’ll celebrate on February 2nd.

Have a wonderful weekend, PWA families!
Don’t forget–Monday, January 25th is a teacher workday as we prepare to wrap up the second grading period. We won’t have school, but childcare will be available. Please email us at office@princewilliamacademy.com if you plan for your child to attend.

We’re still working to raise funds for one of our own, our 5th-8th grade math and science teacher, Victor Bannerman Mr. Bannerman spent over two weeks in the ICU during the holidays after suffering a diabetic attack, and he’s still recovering from several complications. He is improving daily, and in the meantime, we’re hoping to relieve some of the burdens of hospital bills.

Thanks so much to those of you who have donated so far. If you haven’t yet, please consider helping this wonderful teacher and his family–which now includes another beautiful daughter, born while Mr. Bannerman was in the hospital!

We’re wrapping up International Month next week, with lots of fun celebrations at school! We’ll be having a spirit week from Tuesday to Friday, capped off with our International Day presentations. Our International Day Zoom will begin at 10 am, and we’ll send out an email from the office later next week with details on how to log in if you’d like to join us to see our elementary students share what they’ve learned about the countries they’ve studied.

Spirit week activities:

Tuesday – Sample the food! Bring in different cultural foods (low or zero sugar, nut-free) from the country your class is studying. (Teachers will distribute items among students)

Wednesday – Tacky tourist day (Dress up in tacky tourist costumes and take a “tour” to view the other countries’ exhibitions around the school)

Thursday – Pajama day–wear your pajamas and enjoy a video about your classroom country

Friday -International Day! Your child’s teacher may have special instructions regarding what students should wear on this day.

Our current lunch menu and lunch packets can always be found in the buttons at the end of each weekly email. The lunch menu is also directly below.

If you send your child to school with lunch, please remember that we are an entirely nut-free school.
