Week 22

Brrr! We’ve gone from spring-like warmth earlier in the week to freezing temps. We hope everyone stays warm and cozy during whatever weather mother nature dishes out tomorrow!

International Month is in full swing here, and the students are learning about their classroom countries and preparing presentations for the big event–International Day–on January 31st. Parents are always invited to join us for International Day festivities. The students will share facts, food, and fun as they learn about the world from one another.

Registration is now open for the 2020-2021 school year; if you register before January 31st you’ll receive 50% off the registration fees. Early registration helps us plan for the upcoming school year, and ensures a spot for your child.

Students will host a bake sale next week to raise funds for Australian wildlife in the wake of the devastating fires there. Please see below for more details. We’re so proud of our students for taking this initiative!

Today was Pam Jones’ last day here at PWA. We’ve loved having her here with us these past two years, and wish her the very best in her new position. She has promised to come back and visit, and we will always look forward to seeing her.

Please remember that we will be closed on Monday, January 20th, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day. We hope your family enjoys the three-day weekend!

Please sign up to receive texts from PWA regarding inclement weather or changes to our regular schedule. Please note: this is NOT the same list we had last school year. You must sign up for THIS list to receive our texts.

Our middle school students, with help from our 4th and 5th graders, will practice good global citizenship next week with a fundraiser bake sale in support of Australian wildlife who have lost their habitats to wildfires.  6th grader Selman Elsiah is organizing this effort, and he and his classmates will set up a table in the front lobby at dismissal time with baked goods for sale. You can help the effort by donating a baked item* for the kids to sell (just bring it to the office on Wednesday morning), or by purchasing something from their table. All proceeds will go towards a charity of the students’ choosing that will aid Australian wildlife.

We’re so proud of Selman and our middle schoolers for taking this initiative, and we hope you’ll help make it a great success! Please see the flyer below.

*Please ensure that any baked items are nut free! Thank you.

Our Admissions Director Amanda Smyth will set up a table in the front lobby on Wednesday, January 22nd, from 7:00 – 9:00 am, and Thursday, January 23rd from 4-6 pm, and she encourages any parents with questions about about the re-enrollment process for the 2020-2021 school year to stop by. Coffee and muffins will be provided.

PWA Parents! Pure Beings is back with new content for the New Year. I will continue to share information to help us raise healthy pure beings–aka our kids.

In addition, on occasion I will include pure ingredient recipes of yummy goodness that you can feed your kids with peace of mind.

One question I get asked often is how do I make sure I am giving my kids the vitamins and nutrients they need? The reality is many different fruits and vegetables carry different kinds of vitamins and nutrients, so you are not just getting one kind. But to make it easy, here is a quick and fun way to remember by color:

RED – VITAMIN C – RED PEPPER & STRAWBERRIES
ORANGE – VITAMIN A – CARROTS & PAPAYA
GREEN – VITAMIN K – GREEN BEANS & KIWI
PURPLE – ANTIOXIDANTS – CABBAGE & GRAPES

Each can be a part of a side dish or snack.

Enjoy!
