Week 22

We had an interesting week here at PWA, as it was the first time we’ve had to implement our quarantine protocols. We missed our students who were quarantined at home, but did get to see them in their online classes; some also managed to join their own classroom as well. We are very thankful to our teachers, online and in person, who went above and beyond this week to help us manage the quarantine, and help students stay connected. And we’re grateful to our school parents for keeping their students at home and working with us to keep everyone as safe as possible. Our students are expected back at school next week!

Our classes spent time this week learning about the legacy and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. You’ll see some of their art projects below. PWA will be closed on Monday, January 18th, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day.

International Month is underway, as our students learn about other countries and plan their presentations for International Day. Some of the countries represented this year include Costa Rica, France, Turkey, Morocco, Italy, India, and Australia. We are looking forward to a fun celebration at the end of the month!

All of us on the PWA staff would like to thank those of you who donated to our GoFundMe Campaign for the Bannerman Family. We are halfway to our goal and are very grateful for your generosity and willingness to support one of our teachers. If you would like to donate, you’ll find the link below.

Have a wonderful long weekend, PWA families!
We are raising funds to help one of our own, our 5th-8th grade math and science teacher, Victor Bannerman. Mr. Bannerman spent over two weeks in the ICU during the holidays after suffering a diabetic attack; it was a shocking way to learn that he was diabetic! The Bannerman family welcomed their third child while Mr. Bannerman was in the hospital. We are raising funds to help them with hospital bills and other expenses while Mr. Bannerman recovers.

Thanks so much to those of you who have donated so far. If you haven’t yet, please consider helping this wonderful teacher and his beautiful family!

As always, January is International Month at PWA! Throughout the month, we celebrate the world’s diversity by learning about different countries and cultures. Each class selects a country to study throughout the month and will learn about that country’s food, languages, dress, songs, geography, and traditions. We wrap up the month on International Day when the students share what they’ve learned with one another. We will keep you posted throughout the month as we devise plans to adapt our International Day celebration.

Our current lunch menu and lunch packets can always be found in the buttons at the end of each weekly email. The lunch menu is also directly below.

If you send your child to school with lunch, please remember that we are an entirely nut-free school.
