Weekly Family Newsletter December 9, 2022 Week 17
The Book Fair Continues! The holiday season is nearly upon us, but academics are still in full swing at PWA! Our students are gearing up for International Month in January, when each classroom will learn about another country and share their knowledge with others on International Day at the end of the month. It’s always one of our favorite times of year at PWA! Classes are also planning holiday parties for December 22nd, so please be on the lookout for further information from your child’s teacher.
We are busy planning for the winter break, scheduled from Dec. 23 to January 2nd. During the break, PWA will be open for childcare for all students on 12/23, and from 12/27 to 12/30. The cost is $50 per day for elementary and middle students, and families may sign up by following this link (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdUrIEa_yOrWD5DHxEEIewkXP1tW34igQozkQmi3VTMrGhlVg/viewform) .
Our Scholastic Book Fair continues next week, and we encourage families to sign up for an E-Wallet (instructions can be found in the link below) to allow their students to shop the book fair during school hours. Families may also shop online, or visit the book fair in person between 3 pm and 6 pm. We have wonderful books and gifts for all ages! You’ll find information on all the ways to shop the book fair on our homepage.
As you’ve likely heard on the news, flu, COVID and RSV are ramping up around the country right now. We have seen cases of all three in recent weeks at school, and have had to implement test-to-stay protocols for some classrooms. As always, we ask our school community to look out for one another by keeping children home if they exhibit any signs of illness. Also, please note that if you are asked to pick your child up from school for illness, they may not return until they have been symptom-free for a full 24 hours. We may also send students home with a COVID test to be taken before they return to school.
We are still taking donations of cleaning supplies and classroom items! Please see below for more information.
Have a wonderful weekend, PWA families!
The Book Fair continues next week!
E-wallet is the most convenient way to shop–you can set aside funds via an E-Wallet for your child to shop the book fair.
Our school’s book fair home page (via the button below) has information on how to set up an E-Wallet for your student. You can also shop in person between 3 and 6 pm Monday through Friday until the 14th, or online anytime! Books always make great holiday gifts, and all proceeds help our school earn Scholastic dollars to put towardsschool library, as well as our book collections in each classroom.

PWA is still accepting donations this holiday season! If you would like to give to PWA, we can always use general cleaning supplies (Lysol, disinfecting wipes, magic erasers, whiteboard cleaner) as well as items for classrooms that see a lot of wear and tear, such as crayons, pencils, markers, magnet tiles, legos, and blocks. Monetary donations are also welcome. All gifts to PWA are tax deductible with a receipt, which we will happily provide!
Be prepared for a snow day by making sure to sign up for our text message alert system! Text PWAED to 33222 to opt in.
Please also be sure that your elem/middle school child’s PWA email address is activated. If you don’t know your child’s email address, please email the office. Elementary and middle school teachers may utilize Google Classroom on snow days for instruction.
