Week 16
We hope all of our PWA families had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends, and enjoyed a restful break! Our students came back to school refreshed and ready to play and learn. Our teachers took advantage of the sunny days we had, and managed to get the kids out into the fresh air. As colder weather approaches, please be sure to send your child’s jacket or coat each day.
We have several exciting events coming up, including our participation in the Lake Ridge Santa Parade next weekend; please see below for details. We hope you’ll come out and represent PWA, and walk with us in the parade!
Our winter concert is coming up on December 18th, and will feature musical and instrumental performances by our students Jr K and up. The kids are busy rehearsing, and we’re all looking forward to seeing what Mrs. Lindsay has put together!
Meanwhile, our Scholastic Book Fair is underway! You’ll find the it set up in the preschool wing on the top floor of the school. The Book Fair features a wide assortment of books for all ages, games, posters, and activities–all great holiday gifts! Every dollar you spend comes back to PWA as Scholastic dollars to be put towards enhancing our classroom libraries.

Would you like to march in a parade this holiday season? Join us for the Winter Wonderland event at Tackett’s Mill, and represent PWA in the parade by riding on or walking alongside our school bus! The parade lasts from 11-12 on Saturday, December 14th, and we’ll follow up with more details soon. If you and your children would like to participate, please let us know! This year, PWA middle-school student Benjamin Bedio and his family have organized a food drive to benefit local families in need this holiday season. We’ve placed a big white box by the main doors to collect boxes and cans of food, and we hope you’ll donate to this worthy cause.
After school enrichment activities start up again in January, and this year we’ll have Basketball, Floor Hockey, and table top and board games! We’re also featuring a sensory art experience for children ages 3-5. See flyers below for more details, including how to sign up.

Please don’t forget to sign up at the front desk if you would like to bring your students to PWA over the winter break for activities and fun. The cost of our winter break camp is as follows:
Students enrolled in both before and aftercare: No charge
Students enrolled in either before or aftercare: $30 per day
Students not enrolled in extended care, or students from other schools: $50 per day
The drop in rate is $75 per day, so sign up early if you’ll need child care! We are open from 6 – 6:30 every day of the break except for Christmas and New Year’s Day, when we’ll be closed. On December 24th and 31st, we close at 4 pm.
The Scholastic Book Fair is now open, and runs until December 20th. You’ll find our store in the preschool wing.

Huge thanks to those of you who have donated gift cards so far to our teachers! Each year, we ask parents to bring in a gift card from a popular retailer or restaurant (Amazon, Target, Panera, Starbucks, etc) to donate to our annual gift card tree for our teachers. At our staff holiday breakfast, our staff members will each choose two gift cards. Cards can be given in increments of $10 or $15.
You’ll find the donation basket at the front desk. Thank you for spreading holiday cheer to our amazing teachers and staff!

Parents are encouraged to purchase lunch packets rather than single lunches–the price per lunch drops when you buy more at a time. If you want to purchase daily lunch for your child, the total cost is $80 per month.
