Week 35

Our butterflies hatched this week!
We had a delightful week at PWA! We raised butterflies (and even some ladybugs) in our classrooms, and set them free among the many flowers around the school. The students watched the metamorphosis from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly, and it was a special experience for all.

Halfway through April, we’re headed towards wrapping up our curricula and preparing for our annual testing, which will begin the final week of May. All students will take benchmark assessments; students in grades 1 and up will also take the Iowa Assessments, and students in grades 3-8 will take practice SOLs as well. Your classroom teacher will send more information about our testing in May.

Our School Beautification Day will take place on Wednesday, April 21st. You’ll find more information below, but if you’re so inclined we hope you’ll send your child to school with a plant! Plants may be sent in on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Students will have the opportunity to plant them in one of our four gardens around the school.

One of our favorite times of year–Teacher Appreciation Week–is coming up May 3rd – 7th. Each year we celebrate with treats for our teachers, including catered meals and gifts. We’ll send a specific email about this soon, but in the meantime you’ll find more information below on how you can help us show our amazing teachers how much they are appreciated.

Kindergarten parents should see below for important information regarding Kindergarten graduation photos, which are scheduled for May 14th.

Registration continues for our summer camp, and for the 2021-2022 school year. You’ll find the re-registration form below, as well as summer camp information.

Have a wonderful weekend, PWA families!

May 3 – 7 is Teacher Appreciation Week! Each year, we ask for assistance from our school parents to create special days for our staff here at PWA, including catered meals. If you’re interested in either providing a catered breakfast or lunch, or contributing to one, please reach out to Dr. Nykwest Plans are underway for our kindergarten graduation! Kindergarten parents should check their child’s backpack for an order form for caps and gowns. You’ll also find it in the button below. Kindergarten graduation photos are set for May 14th here at school. The graduation ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 16th, and more details will be forthcoming soon.

Please give your cap and gown order form to the staff member outside either at drop-off or dismissal.

Registration is underway for our summer camp! It starts May 31st for non-PWA students, and on June 21st for PWA students.

Our mission every year is to combat summer learning loss with morning academics that reinforce content from the school year and advance students towards their rising grade level. In the afternoons, we put on fun activities including water play in our sprinklers, sports, field trips (socially distanced) arts and crafts, and more.

If you know any families who might be interested in our program, please help us spread the word. Your endorsement is always our school’s best advertisement! And of course, we hope to see you there!
