Week 24
February 1st, 2019
2nd Grade teacher Mrs. Wiggins created this beautiful lady in honor of International Day (her class is learning about Ghana) and Black History Month, which begins today!
We were delighted to see so many of our students here today–we missed them this week! It looks like warmer weather is in store, and we look forward to jumping back into our regular routines.
We did have to reschedule several school events this week, including our Chick-Fil-A fundraiser, Principal’s Scholar Awards, and International Day. These are now scheduled as follows:
Chick-Fil-A Fundraiser: 5-8 pm Tuesday, February 5th. Vouchers bearing the originally scheduled date may still be used.
Principal’s Scholar Awards: Wednesday, Feb. 6th, 9:50 am in the gym.
International Day: Friday, February 8th
Elementary and Middle School Parents: Our annual Spelling Bee Club is about to begin! Please check your child’s backpack for further information. All students are asked to participate, as this will be a school-wide activity meant to build vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence! There is no traditional spelling bee at the end, just a written exam. Students who score the highest at each grade level receive trophies at our annual ceremony.
International Day has been rescheduled for Friday, February 8th. We hope you’ll join us as our students take their world tour, sample different cuisines, and learn about other cultures. Your classroom teacher will update you with a schedule.
Starting in March, Girls on the Run will put together a team of runners, from grades 3-7. The goal is to help girls become strong, confident, and healthy. Sign up by visiting the link in the flyer below. Practices are Mondays and Thursdays from 3:45 until 5 pm here at school.
We’ve rescheduled our Chick-Fil-a Night! Stop by the Lake Ridge Chick-Fil-A between 5 and 8 pm on Tuesday, February 5th, and 20% of the proceeds from your meal will go to PWA! You can use the same vouchers that went home in backpacks last week; they’ll also be available at the front desk, and attached to this email. And yes–you can use them at the drive-thru! Proceeds go towards our fund for enhancing technology in the classrooms.
French Club is starting up for the year, and will meet Tuesdays from 3:30 – 4:15. Students from grades 2 – 5 are welcome to join. The club, taught by our own Ms. Ruth, will run for 8 weeks from February 5th until April 2nd, at a cost of $99.00.
