Week 29
We had such a fun week here at PWA. It was Read Across America Week, and we celebrated with themes…and books! Our students especially enjoyed buddy reading time, as our older students read to younger ones. What a beautiful way to connect all our students around the school. We also had a “celebrate your hair day” and pajama day, which is always a hit with students. We took LOTS of great pictures this week–please check them out below.
Next week, our students will visit classrooms in the next grade level up. So for instance, our 3s will visit Jr K, and our Jr K will visit K. Students will have a lesson in each classroom with the teacher and learn a little about what a day in the life of a student in that grade is like. This is always a fun day for all.
Our PTC’s Krispy Kreme Fundraiser starts next week! This was a big favorite last year…boxes of fresh doughnuts delivered to the school and then to you! Check your student’s backpack for an order form, or inquire in the office. The fundraiser starts March 9th, and closes out on March 26th. We hope you’ll help us raise some dough!
This is the time of year when classrooms can always use extra boxes of tissues, gloves, hand sanitizer (where available!) and disinfecting spray and wipes. If you’re able to spare a few of these items, we know your child’s teacher would appreciate it.
We hope all of our PWA families enjoy a lovely weekend!
We are continuing to monitor all news concerning the coronavirus, and have been implementing heightened measures at the school for sanitizing surfaces and objects, and for enforcing frequent hand washing among students and staff. Our administrators have been in close contact with our accrediting agencies regarding policies and procedures, and have been reviewing all recommendations issues by the CDC and the Virginia Department of Health.
As is common this time of year, we have a few illnesses going around the school, including influenza A and B. If your child is sick, please keep them home until they are symptom free for a full 24 hours without the aid of a pain reliever/fever reducer. If you do keep your child home for the day, please call the office to let us know.

Our PTC’s annual Krispy Kreme Fundraiser starts next week! Order forms went home with students today. You can order a dozen fresh, delicious Krispy Kreme doughnuts for $10, and all proceeds go towards the PTC’s Technology Initiative. Doughnuts will be delivered on March 26th. PWA is putting together a Girls on the Run team this year, with Mrs. Acosta as our coach! We have extended registration through next week. This program is available to girls in grades 3-8, and is a great way to get them active, and instill self-confidence and perseverance. Please click on the link below to register at their website. We need at least 8 students to form a team. Practices will be held twice weekly directly after school. Your daughter does not need to be a PWA student to join!

Sweet little ones…hand painting…Dr. Seuss’s birthday…art and play in 3s…lots of buddy readings throughout the school–so much fun!…Dr. Nykwest reading to the 1st graders…teachers in pajamas…celebrate your hair day!..what a great week!
