Week 24
Week 24 at PWA was busy, productive, challenging, and a lot of fun. This week, we celebrated our 100th day of school, Chinese New Year, and International Day, and all were the result of a lot of work, learning, and cooperation. Thanks to all the parents who joined us, provided food, and participated in so many ways in making today a success. And big thanks to our teachers for putting together such fun and informative activities for their classrooms. Way to go, PWA team!
February may be a shorter month, but it will be full for us. We’ve begun a new quarter, and we’ll shift our focus away from International Month towards our Science Fair, which takes place in April. That’s right: it’s time for our Elementary and Middle students to start thinking about their science projects!
Next week we’ll have a Spirit Night at Chick-fil-a on Tuesday, February 4th, so please check below for more details. 20% of the proceeds from your order go towards the PTC’s Technology Initiative–your fundraiser dollars have purchased new classroom computers for kindergarten, preschool, and second grade so far this year, and the PTC hopes to keep that momentum going!
We took lots of fantastic pictures this week, so be sure to check them out below.
We hope you all have a wonderful, warm weekend!
The PWA PTC will host a Spirit Night at the Chick-fil-a on Old Bridge Road this Tuesday, February 4th. Stop by the Chik-fil-a on Old Bridge Road between 5 and 8 pm on Tuesday and show your cashier the flyer below. PWA will receive 20% of the purchase price of your order! All proceeds from Spirit Nights go towards the PTC’s Technology Initiative to continuously upgrade computers at our school.
You’ll find vouchers at the school that give you a free item for every $10 spent at the event.
Thanks for your support. We hope to see you there!

Easy ways to encourage healthy eating habits for your child.
Get ’Em While They’re Hungry
While prepping their meal, give them a few veggies to munch on. They are more likely to eat them when they are hungry!
Serve a Colorful Lunch
Eat the rainbow is not just a skittles ad. This can also be the way you display your child’s lunch/dinner. Try some red, yellow and orange heirloom carrots with hummus, baked blue corn chips, sliced avocado, and watermelon for dessert. This will give them plenty of key nutrients and satisfies their hunger.
Make Fruit Fun
Get creative! Depending on the month or season, use some fun shaped cookie cutters and cut out different fruits in those shapes. Enjoy seeing your child light up as they have fun with their fruit.
Sneak Greens Into a Smoothie
Smoothie mixes are the easiest way to add greens. Spinach, cucumber, kale etc are simple adds that pack tons of nutrients for the body. Serve it in a solid bottle so they don’t question what is in it.
Get Your Children Chopping
Kids are more likely to try new fruits and vegetables if they help prepare them. Young kids can use a plastic knife to cut up red peppers, cucumbers, and softer fruits like dates.

Today was International Day at PWA, the culmination of a month of learning about countries around the world. Our teachers did a fantastic job of introducing our students to the cultures, foods, songs, and customs of countries they didn’t know about before, and of providing wonderful presentations for all the students to enjoy. Thank you, teachers, for helping our students learn more about our world! And thanks to the parents who came out to share this special day with us. Below are a few of the countries we “visited” today.
Greece
China
Ireland
Pakistan
El Salvador
Singapore
France
Ghana
Japan
Madagascar
