Week 3
We had a terrific 3rd week of school here at PWA. Students are fully engaged with the curriculum, and have acclimated to their classroom routines. We’re so thankful to our teachers, who have done a great job implementing curriculum and getting to know their students.
PE has officially started, and our other specials will begin by the end of the month.
Please don’t forget to get your child’s updated physical form, and to add any recent immunizations to his or her file. It’s important that all physical forms for preschool students be renewed each year! If you have any questions, please contact the front office.
We hope all of you enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend!
By now we’ve all seen images of the destruction Hurricane Dorian has wrought on the beautiful Bahamas. Several of our PWA students and teachers have family in the Bahamas, and we know that they’ve received tragic news. Our hearts go out to those of you who have lost loved ones, and to those still awaiting word.
We’re initiating a school-wide fundraising drive to send a PWA donation to a hurricane relief fund for the Bahamas. Our elementary and middle students will help us decide which reputable international organization will receive our donation, but in the meantime we’ll start collecting funds right away. You can make your donation in the front office by cash, credit or debit card, or check, and we’ll collect funds all through next week. We’ll send the full donation the following week, as time is of the essence.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, and for modeling global citizenship and compassion for our students.
Back-to-School Night is coming up next Friday, September 13th, from 5-7 pm. Join your child’s teacher (preschool through middle school) to learn about classroom routines, curriculum, classroom management and rules, and more. Teachers will begin their presentations promptly at 5:30, so be sure to arrive by then! We’re leaving extra time for parents to explore the classroom and talk one-on-one with the teacher after the presentations.
Please remember to sign in and out each day if you bring your child in through the front door. If you require assistance or a code, please let us know.
The first PTC meeting of the year will be held Thursday, September 13th at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria. All parents–from infants and toddlers to middle school–are welcome to join!
The PTC raises funds for special initiatives at school, and for special events. Last year, the PTC organized numerous spirit nights at local restaurants, and put on a fantastic pancake breakfast here at the school. They also organized a wonderfully successful Yankee Candle fundraiser. All funds went towards new laptops for classrooms. The PTC also generously paid for our 8th grade graduation trip to King’s Dominion.
The PTC is a lot of fun, and it’s a great way to play a role in shaping your child’s educational environment. We hope to see you at our next meeting!
Dear Parents: Please be advised that we must have your child’s updated physical form within 30 days of their start at school. All physicals must be updated annually.
We must have immunization records when your child starts school.
All preschool parents must provide updated immunization forms as the immunizations take place. All children under two must have updated immunization forms every six months.
Please find the Virginia Health Form attached below, and contact the office if you have any questions about physicals or when they need to be done.

Did you know that we offer before and after school care for students who don’t attend PWA? We have bus service from Lake Ridge Elementary, and also provide AM drop off and PM pickup from Lake Ridge Middle; Antietam; Springwoods; and Old Bridge Elementary schools. We open at 6 am, and are here until 6:30 pm.
Please let the office know if you’re interested in learning more!

Parents are encouraged to purchase lunch packets rather than single lunches–the price per lunch drops when you buy more at a time. If you want to purchase daily lunch for your child, the total cost is $80 per month.
