Happy Friday!
Please remember that Monday, October 8th is a Teacher Professional Development Day. There is no school, but childcare is available. There is a fee associated with this for most students (other than infants/toddler and preschoolers enrolled in before AND aftercare). Please contact the office if you have any questions.
Our next PTC meeting is set for Thursday, October 11th at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria. We hope you can join us! We’re planning fundraisers for new technology in the classrooms, and working on organizing some special events at the school.
Join our own Ms. Ruth for after school French! She’s offering small group tutoring sessions; the cost is $25/half hour, or $50/hour, and groups can meet one or two times per week. Please let the office know if you’re interested. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to learn to hone their language skills!
The PTC is putting together a raffle basket full of local products and fun items donated by parents. Tickets will be three for five dollars, and proceeds will go towards technology in the classrooms at PWA.
If you have a product, gift certificate, or other interesting item to donate to our raffle basket, please contact Dr. Nykwest at rnykwest@princewilliamacademy.com. This is a great way to advertise your business while helping the school!
The raffle drawing will take place at our Fall Festival on Oct. 26th. Tickets will be made available next week.
We are looking for volunteers for our Fall Festival on October 26th. We need parents to run stations and special activities for the kids, and to man the food tables. If you’re interested, please look for a sign up sheet in the front office next week! We’ll divide times up for morning, midday and afternoon shifts for those who wish to help with tables, and morning and afternoon setup and cleanup.
School Picture Day is scheduled for Monday, October 29th! Students and staff members will have their pictures taken that day. Students Jr K and up should wear their school uniforms.
Makeups, retakes, class photos, sibling photos, and our school photo will be Tuesday, November 13th.
Note: Students who attend only on T/TH in the preschool may have their photo taken that day, or make arrangements to come in on the 29th of October. There will be no makeups possible after November 13th!
More information will come home soon in your child’s backpack.
Weekly Class Updates
Our kindergartners studied nocturnal animals and made “All About Owls” books this week.
On Nov. 7th, our kindergartners will go to the Baltimore Aquarium on a field trip! Chaperones are needed; please speak to Ms. Saira. Permission slips should be returned by October 10th!
Our first graders worked on their Symbols of Our Country project. Along with our second graders, they’ll be going on a field trip to Belvedere Farm on October 19th at 9:00 am!
Our second graders studied Native American cultures this week, and built their own longhouses, resembling those of the Northwest woodlands. They also scored 100% on their spelling tests again!
Our third graders all scored 100% on their Force and Motion science tests! This week, they also talked about the five regions of the U.S.
Our fourth graders also studied Native American Culture this week. All made 100% on their Social Studies unit 1 tests!
Our 5th – 8th graders did their reports on geologists this week. They dressed for the occasion and did a terrific job! They also have an atom project due next week.
Our 2s talked about safety and helpers, and played with shaving cream.
Our 3s preschoolers learned about zoo animals this week, and did lots of fun crafts.
Our Jr K students went to the science lab to learn about the five senses. They also started languages this week!
We have new faces in our infant and toddler center–Ms. Nadia, and Ms. Alexis! Welcome aboard!
