Weekly PWA Family Email
Week 1
August 24, 2018
Our first week of the 2018-2019 school year is officially in the books! And what a fun week it was, full of reunions, new friendships being made, and lots of excitement about the opportunities and possibilities for learning and growing this year.
If you have any questions–about how we do things here, about your child’s classroom, about anything at all–please don’t hesitate to let us know. You can call us at 703-491-1444, email us at office@princewilliamacademy.com, or stop by and speak with Dr. Nykwest anytime. We’re always happy to see you, and so glad to have your children with us this year.
Join Dr. Nykwest on Friday, August 31st between 7:30 and 8:30 am for the first Coffee with the Principal of the school year! If the weather is nice she’ll set up a table outside; otherwise, you’ll find her in the front office. Either way, she hopes you’ll stop by and say hello, grab a cup of coffee, and let her know how the first weeks of school have gone for your family.
A few useful reminders about lunches and snacks:
* Please remember that we are a nut-free school. No nuts of any kind are permitted in lunches or snacks.
* Please remember to make healthy choices for lunch and snacks.
* If you plan to buy lunch for your child, please do so in advance. Lunch packets are attached to this email, or are available at the front desk.
* Please be sure to pack plenty of snacks for your child, especially if they attend before and/or aftercare.
* If your child has food allergies, our school chef Ms. Veronica is happy to work with your family to make sure your child has options. Please see the front desk if you’d like to communicate directly with her regarding the menu.
Our elementary and middle students hit the ground running this week! Our students did assessments, got their first homework assignments, and did lots of reading. Students and teachers worked together to establish classroom rules, and spent lots of time getting to know one another.
Please be sure to check on your child’s homework packet, if they have one, and look for any paperwork that came home in your child’s backpack.
We’d like to gently remind parents that students must be in their classrooms and parents must exit the elementary/middle wing by 8:10 am. Class starts promptly at 8:15. If you drop your child off later than this, please bring them to the front office and allow a staff member to take them back to class, so that the teachers are not interrupted. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
We had lots of new friends start this week in the preschool, and they’ve settled in well with the students who’ve been here all summer.
Our preschool 3s painted with red this week, and practiced writing the letter A and the numbers 1-3.
Our Jr Kindergartners are adapting to no naps, new classrooms, and new friends. They had a busy week doing name crafts, and did lots of activities to get to know one another and their teachers.
We welcomed some new friends this week, and will welcome several more on Monday! Our center is growing, and so is our staff. Quatease Tann will join our team on Monday, and you should expect to see at least one other new face there in the coming weeks. We’d like to thank Ms. Kiara, Ms. Ross, Ms. Marleny, and Ms. Brianna for being so amazing, and for working so well together.
And we wish Ms. Brianna all the best as she heads off to college at Radford University! We hope she’ll join us again next summer.
