UPPER SCHOOL: GRADE 7-9

PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE WITH CONFIDENCE

In Prince William Academy's Upper School, students in Grades 7-9 engage in a rigorous academic program that encourages critical thinking, leadership, and personal responsibility. As they prepare for the challenges of high school and beyond, students develop advanced skills in problem-solving, collaboration, and self-directed learning, setting the stage for future success.

Prince William Academy’s Upper School program welcomes students in Grades 7-9 from diverse backgrounds, providing an enriching educational experience recognized for its academic excellence and innovative approach. Our program fosters both tradition and forward-thinking, creating an environment where students are challenged academically and supported by a close-knit community. Each student works closely with a faculty advisor, who serves as a guide and liaison with their team of teachers, ensuring a well-rounded and personalized academic experience.

From Grade 7 onward, students encounter increasingly rigorous academic requirements. Our six-day rotation schedule includes core subjects such as mathematics, English, history, science, and world languages, along with specialized courses in art, music, wellness, and physical education. Classes are assigned based on both grade level and individual proficiency in subjects like math and languages, while electives offer students the chance to explore areas of personal interest. This structure allows students to grow intellectually while building the skills necessary for success in high school and beyond.

Beyond academics, Upper School students engage in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, from athletics to creative arts and service learning. With numerous sports to choose from each trimester, students can try new activities or develop their skills in familiar ones. Additionally, our robust program offers activities like robotics, drama, outdoor exploration, and design, ensuring students have opportunities to grow both in and out of the classroom. Social events, service projects, and weekend excursions further enrich their experience, helping students build lasting connections and develop as well-rounded individuals.

Through an inquiry-based approach, students are encouraged to meet high standards and take on more complex challenges. They are supported in taking intellectual risks and growing as independent learners in a nurturing environment that emphasizes academic success, social responsibility, and the pursuit of personal growth. Teachers and peers alike provide encouragement, fostering a sense of accomplishment and confidence in each child’s ability to reach their full potential.
