Weekly Family Email
Week 39
May 17th, 2019

This is such a busy time of year at school–the good kind of busy! Students are wrapping up the curriculum, testing is underway, and we are preparing for our World Language programs next week, as well as the music and drama presentation by the 1st-8th graders (Drama 3rd – 8th; Music 1st – 8th). Please see below for times and dates, and have a look at the updated school calendar.

Many of our elementary students had field trips this week. Our 1st and 2nd grades visited the National Zoo on a beautiful day, and we’re very grateful to all the parents who drove and chaperoned the trip! Today, our 3rd- 8th graders took a trip to Lake Ridge Park for some putt-putt, and next week, our 3rd and 4th graders will visit Rippon Lodge, the oldest free-standing house in Prince William County.

Please remember that testing is underway in the elementary/middle school, and in the Jr K too–please  arrive on time with your student so that teachers may begin promptly and stick to the schedules they’ve made. On the elementary/middle side, if you arrive after 8:20, your student will be escorted back to class so as not to disrupt others.

Registration for our Summer Enrichment Program continues! We put on a fun summer camp here that includes academics in the morning to combat summer learning loss, and to help prepare students for their rising grade level. Please see below for more information and registration materials.

Please also see below for information about our SchoolKidz boxes–you can buy all of your student’s school supplies for the upcoming year with the click of a button, and have them delivered directly to their classroom!

Next week, our World Language Programs will take place on Friday, May 24th. Our 3s program will go on at 3:15; our Jr K and Kindergarten will perform at 4:00, and our 1st-8th will perform at 5 pm. The shows will be presented in the gym. Please remember that you may not park in the storage facility next door, or in the lot of the office building. There are lots of spots along Cotton Mill Dr. behind the school, and these provide easy access to the gym.

We hope you all enjoy a warm, fun-filled weekend!

Our annual World Languages Program will take place on Friday, May 24th. Our language instructors, Ms. Nuria, Ms. Huda, and Ms. Li, have all worked with the students, along with Ms. Noh,  to prepare a few short songs in the languages they study. The schedule will be as follows:

3s preschool: 3:15 pm
Jr K and Kindergarten: 4:00 pm
1st – 8th grades: 5:00 pm

Our 3rd – 8th grade Drama and Musical presentation will take place on Thursday, June 6th (please note, the date is being changed from the 7th!) at 5:00 pm. Our students will perform on bucket drums and recorders, and will do a few bits from Shakespeare!
Our Scholastic Book Fair is coming! This year’s Book Fair runs from June 3rd – June 14th, and provides a great opportunity to stock up on summer reading, birthday gifts, and more. We’ll have more info posted around the school shortly.

Heartfelt congratulations to the Downey and Curry families on the recent arrival of their newest members!

Our lost and found bin is at max capacity! Please check it for items that might belong to your child. You’ll find it just inside the doors leading to the elementary and middle wing. We also have a pair of nice glasses at the front desk that were found in the parking lot.

Anything not claimed by June 3rd will be donated to a thrift shop!

The 2019-2020 school year will be here before we know it! Take some of the hassle out of back-to-school planning by ordering all of your child’s school supplies with one click! Enrollment is in full swing for PWA’s Summer Enrichment Program! All campers work on core academic subjects in the mornings, from 9 to 12, to reinforce learning from the previous school year and give them a jump-start on the school year ahead. Afternoons are full of fun and exciting events and activities. Campers go swimming each week, take field trips to area sites and attractions, visit Fantasy Park, and enjoy a wide variety of in-house shows and events. We’re also offering two special weeks of Art Camp this summer, with our own Ms. Cox!

Registration materials, themes, and rates can be found in the buttons below. Please call the office at 703-491-1444 with any questions.
