Weekly Family Email
Week 36
April 26th, 2019

We had a terrific week, getting back into the swing of things after spring break. We’ve all enjoyed hearing about our students’ spring break adventures.

The school year is winding down–students are finishing up many of their textbooks, and preparing to review for standardized and benchmark tests on the elementary and middle side. We’ll be providing our testing schedule soon.

The next couple of months will be busy ones! Teacher Appreciation Week kicks off on May 6th, and is always a highlight of the school year. Please be on the lookout for a signup sheet in the front office, asking for assistance with special events and treats for our teachers. We’ll round out that week with our Mother’s Day Tea on May 10th. Our end-of-year World Language Program will be on May 24th. Please see below for more details on these events.

We’re also very excited to announce that we’ve received our official accreditation from AdvancED! (You can find more information about them here (https://www.advanc-ed.org/services/accreditation) ). We hope you share our pride in the fact that PWA is accredited by the Virginia Independent Schools Association, the Southern Association of Independent Schools, the American Camp Association (our summer program), the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and, now, AdvancED. We work hard to maintain the standards these organizations require of us. Our accreditations reflect our commitment to excellence, constant improvement, and accountability.

As always, we thank you for the trust you place in us!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Please join us for our annual Mother’s Day Tea on Friday, May 10th. Our Elementary and Middle Tea will take place from 10 – 10:45 am, and our Preschool Tea will begin at 11. The students will have a brief musical performance prepared, and we’ll provide light refreshments. We look forward to honoring the amazing mothers of PWA!

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming May 6th – 10th! This is a wonderful opportunity to shower our teachers with love and appreciation for the hard, heartfelt work they do every day. We’re organizing with the help of the PTC, and we’ll have a signup sheet out front starting next week for parents to volunteer to provide items. We’re hoping to provide a catered lunch, a catered breakfast, and desserts on different days, so if you’d like to provide or donate towards any of these things, please let the office know.

As the school year winds down, we know the temptation can be to relax on certain things. But please remember that ALL students Jr K – 8th grade are required to wear uniforms to school. We make small exceptions on PE days for our older students, which includes allowing them to wear white or blue athletic shirts and shorts/pants. However, the rest of the time, students are expected to wear their uniforms. These uniforms mark the students as members of the PWA community, and should be worn with pride!

Our new tuition software goes fully into effect next week! On the laptop at the front desk, you’ll be able to view your invoice and pay with your card, or with an automatic bank withdrawal. You can also make payments online! Your account will update automatically to reflect your payment.

Please note that all cards (debit and credit) will be charged a 2% fee. There is no charge for setting up an automatic bank withdrawal; just fill out the form and we’ll update your information in the software so it will be available for you each month. The form can be found below and is also available at the front desk.

If you’ve taken home a copy of your child’s newest contract, please return it to Amanda Pischel as soon as you can so we can reserve space and plan classrooms! Thank you!
Huge congratulations to the Allotey family on the arrival of baby Zavier! We are delighted for you all, and look forward to meeting him.
Spotted at school this week….
