Week 3

Happy Labor Day! Enjoy the long weekend!
It’s hard to believe we’re already 3 weeks into the school year! By now we’ve gotten to know one another a bit, and it’s a joy to see our students feeling comfortable in their classrooms.

This week, elementary and middle school parents had the opportunity to meet their children’s teacher on back-to-school night. We hope you enjoyed the virtual tour of your child’s classroom and learning more about their curriculum and the structure of their school days.

Preschool parents will have the opportunity to meet their children’s teachers next week, on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Please see below for more details.

Aside from our back-to-school nights, this month we’ll also celebrate International Dot Day (all students can wear polka dots to school on Sept. 15th). Also, our first Principal’s Scholar Awards of the year will take place later this month. The Principal’s Scholar Awards are one way we celebrate our students for their good choices and behavior, and cultivate the values we strive to instill in all our pupils, including fairness, perseverance, courage, kindness, integrity, and honesty. We start off with Fairness: each classroom, Jr K and above, will choose a student who routinely displays this characteristic, and we’ll honor these children with an award. Because we are still distancing cohorts at school, we’ll have the ceremony virtually again this year, and parents of recipients will be invited to attend.

On Monday, we celebrate Labor Day with a day off for all. We will return to school on Tuesday, 9/7.

Have a wonderful long weekend, PWA Families!

Next week, it’s our preschool parents’ turn for back-to-school night! Teachers will set up tables outside, and parents will be able to stop by for a meet-and-greet.

Wednesday, September 8th from 4-5 pm: Preschool 2s and 3s

Thursday, September 9th from 4-5 pm: Jr Kindergarten

All attendees must be masked at all times while on school grounds.

Please note that we no longer stagger drop-off and pick-up times as we did last year, and have gone back to our regular drop-off and dismissal schedule. Hours are as follows.

Preschool and Jr K:     7:00 am – 6:00 pm (school day plus extended care)
School Day: 8:30 – 3:00

Preschool students are picked up and dropped off at the front door.

Elementary and Middle: 7:00 am – 6:00 pm (full day plus extended care)

School day:
Kindergarten: 8:15 am – 3:00 pm
1^st – 8^th Grades: 8:15 am – 3:30 pm
Elementary and middle students are dropped off and picked up at the side door by the adjacent building’s parking lot. We open the doors at 8:10 am and close them at 8:30. Any students arriving after that time must come to the front door and will be marked tardy.

Extended care students may be dropped off and picked up from the front door.

Parents with children in both preschool and elementary/middle may drop off and pick up at the front door.
If you haven’t yet, please be sure to sign up for our text message alert system. We use this system for important announcements, weather-related changes to the school day, and in case of emergency.
