Weekly Family Newsletter October 7, 2022 Week 8
The weather finally warmed up this week, but it was touch and go there for a bit! It was a good reminder that colder weather is around the corner, and it’s time to make sure your child has additional layers to keep in their cubbies at school. It’s also important to sign up for our text message alert system so you can receive quick information about weather-related changes to the school day! You’ll find information on how to sign up below.
This week we practiced things that keep us safe, with a fire drill and a visit from a local police officer, who spoke with our fourth graders about firearm safety.
We held our first PTC meeting of the year on Thursday, and it was great to see so many newcomers, as well as returning members! We started planning for our upcoming Trunk N’ Treat event to be held on October 28th after the fall festival. Families will be invited to decorate the trunks of their cars in our top parking lot, and our students will get a chance to do some early trick or treating! We’ll have prizes for first, second, and third place. More information coming soon. We held this event last year, and it was so much fun! Entry will be by donation, with proceeds going towards the PTC’s Technology Initiative, to raise funds for additional technology at PWA.
With COVID numbers continuing to drop, we will be suspending the practice of temperature checks at the door starting Tuesday, October 11th. As always, we may check a child’s temperature if they exhibit signs of illness or appear lethargic. We continue to encourage mask wearing, and for students and parents to choose the option with which they are most comfortable. Our test-to-stay program will remain in place for use as needed.
Our school picture days are coming up on October 20th and 21st; please see below for more information. As always, if your child is not scheduled to attend on the day of their pictures, please let the office know and we will make arrangements for your child to come in and have their picture taken.
Our annual fall festival will be held at school on October 28th, and we’ll be seeking parent volunteers to run stations. Parents will also be invited to attend with their children. Stay tuned for more details coming soon!
Monday, October 10th is a Professional Development Day for all of our staff members, and we will be closed for school and childcare. We’ll look forward to seeing our wonderful students again on Tuesday!
