Weekly Family Newsletter October 21, 2022 Week 10

Next week is Spirit Week at PWA! You’ll find more details below. We had a fun-filled and enriching week at PWA, with loads of science experiments going on, and fall magic in the air. Our students of all ages love the leaves on the playground–our teachers took some wonderful pictures, which you’ll find below.

We are gearing up for Spirit Week next week, when students will get to wear pajamas, sports jerseys, and even costumes to school. Please see below for the full calendar of events. We close out the week on Friday with our fall festival, and we are still looking for parent volunteers to help run stations. You’ll find a link below to sign up. Parents will also be welcome to join their child’s class outside as they participate in the festival, so stay tuned for information from your child’s teacher about the timing.

Our fall festival will be followed that evening by Trunk or Treat. Families and friends are invited to come to PWA at 5:30 to see the trunks on display and trick or treat in the front parking lot. A Kona Ice truck will also be on hand to provide additional treats! We are still looking for families to sign up for spaces to decorate their trunks, so if you’re interested please follow the link below!

On Friday, students may wear costumes to school. Please be advised that while costumes may be spooky, they cannot be scary or gory–no fake blood, please! Also, if your child’s costume has accessories or pretend weapons, please keep those at home. Feel free to include a change of clothes in your child’s backpack in case they do not wish to be in costume throughout the day.

Time flies when you’re having fun, and it’s hard to believe that next Friday also closes out the first quarter of the school year! Report cards will be distributed by October 4th, and teachers will reach out next week regarding setting up times for parent/teacher conferences.

Also starting next week, Fridays will be Academic Enrichment days in our elementary and middle schools. No new material will be introduced on Fridays, and instead we will focus on assessments, academic review of the concepts covered during the week, group activities to extend learning, and the completion of assignments and larger projects. We’ll also include a Friday Enrichment Power Hour from 2:15 – 3:15, when teachers will check in with students individually regarding that week’s homework, and help them get a jumpstart on the homework for the week ahead.

We have a busy and exciting week ahead, and we’re looking forward to spending it with your children!

Have a wonderful weekend, PWA families!

Our fall festival will be held on October 28th between 10 and 3 at the school. It will be a day of games and activities, and lots of fun for all. We’re seeking parent volunteers to run stations and assist with setup and cleanup; if you’re interested in volunteering, please send Dr. Nykwest an email via the link below. As long as the weather holds, parents will also be invited to join their students for the fun, so stay tuned for information from your child’s teacher!

Volunteer for the Fall Festival!  Next week is Spirit Week, and students of all ages who wish to participate will have the chance to dress up–in pajamas, in pink, in sports jerseys, and in halloween garb. Please see the calendar above for themes for each day next week. The PTC will host its annual Trunk-or-Treat Spooktacular event at 5:30 pm on Friday, October 28th!

We’re inviting PWA families to sign up to reserve a parking spot in our top lot and decorate a car trunk. You can reserve a spot via the link below. That evening, our school families and friends will go trick-or-treating at each car. Trunks can be spooky or silly (but not gory!) and prizes will be awarded for the top three best-dressed trunks, as selected by our PTC panel of judges.

Adding to the fun, PWA parent and realtor Joella Bowden, along with partners Champion Title and Settlements, Inc., and Jackie Fields-Gleadall with Atlantic Coast Mortgage have generously sponsored a Kona Ice Truck to provide our students with free treats at the event!

This event was a big hit last year and admission is by donation, with a minimum of $10 per family. All proceeds will go towards the PTC’s ongoing technology initiative, which raises funds to upgrade computers and technology at the school.

We can’t wait to see you there! Reserve a Space for Trunk or Treat Be sure to sign up for our text message alert system! This is the most efficient way for us to get a message out the the whole school community.

We use this system in the event of weather-related changes to the scheduled school day, and would utilize it in case of emergency.
