Week 41

Benchmark testing got underway in many of our elementary classes this week, and students (and parents!) have been doing a terrific job of arriving on time and prepared for the day. Testing will continue next week as other classes begin with benchmarks and grades 3-5 move on to practice SOLs. We wrap up testing the week of June 5th, and follow that with review and reinforcement, as well as fun activities during the final week of school culminating in our field day on June 18th.

Our preschoolers have been busy, too, as many of them prepare for a transition on June 21st to their next level! Our preschoolers will also participate in summer themes and activities, including water play in our sprinklers.

Warmer weather has arrived (though this weekend might not be a good indication of that!) so please ensure that students are wearing proper clothing and footwear to school. Flip flops are not permitted; students may wear sandals as long as they are closed-toed. But PE and recess continue as usual, so athletic shoes remain the best option for ensuring students get the most out of their activities. Preschool parents should be sure to update spare clothes for cubbies with seasonally appropriate items.

Have a wonderful weekend, PWA families!

Testing continues this week for all elementary grades. We’re doing our part to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible, but we need your help! Here are a few important items to observe:

* Elementary students must be inside the building by 8:45 am so that testing can begin according to schedule. Students who arrive late may have to make up a test in progress at a later time.

* Make sure your student gets a good night’s sleep, and eats a healthy, hearty breakfast. Be sure to send students to school with ample snacks and water for the day.

Our Kindergarten graduation ceremony will take place Wednesday, June 16th at 6 pm. Kindergarten parents should be on the lookout for more details forthcoming through email. In the meantime, save the date!
Our mission every year is to combat summer learning loss with morning academics that reinforce content from the school year and advance students towards their rising grade level. In the afternoons, we put on fun activities including water play in our sprinklers, sports, field trips (socially distanced) arts and crafts, and more. Each week has a theme. Please see the summer calendar below (and note that it may be subject to change depending on weather and health conditions)

May 24 – June 11 — Testing (check your classroom calendar for specific dates)
May 31st — Memorial Day Observed (no school or childcare)
June 16 — Kindergarten Graduation
