Week 40

Week 40 is in the books, and we’re headed into the home stretch of the school year! Just 4 weeks left, and they will be full and busy ones.

Benchmark testing will begin next week for some elementary classes, so be sure to look out for information from your child’s teacher. We’ve also provided a few pointers below for testing protocols–the most important being that students must arrive by 8:45 for school, before we close the elementary side door.

In the office, we’re busy planning for the end of the school year, which will include our Kindergarten graduation and our field day on the last day of school (June 18th).

Enrollment continues for the 2021-2022 school year, and for our Summer Enrichment Program (which starts June 22nd for PWA students!). You can sign up for a week at a time or the whole summer. Our campers take math and language arts in the mornings, and do fun activities in the afternoons. Please be sure to contact Amanda Smyth (mailto:asmyth@princewilliamacademy.com?subject=Summer%20Enrichment%20Program) for more information!

Have a wonderful weekend, PWA families!

It’s that time of year again! We will begin our curriculum benchmark testing next week in most elementary classes, followed by practice SOLs (grades 3 and up) and the Iowa Assessments from K-8. Check with your child’s teacher for his or her specific schedule.

We will do our part to make the experience of testing as smooth as possible. But we’ll also need your help! Please be sure to observe the following during testing:

* Arrive on time! Elementary students must be inside the building by 8:45 am so that testing can begin according to schedule. Students who arrive late may have to make up a test in progress at a later time.

* Make sure your student gets a good night’s sleep, and eats a healthy, hearty breakfast. Be sure to send students to school with ample snacks and water for the day.

Pursuant to the latest state ordinances regarding mask wearing in public and private schools, we will continue to wear masks at PWA at least through the end of the summer. The requirement applies to anyone who enters school grounds, regardless of vaccination status. Therefore we continue to require that parents and guardians where a mask when picking up and dropping off children.

The latest Executive Order from the Governor is attached below, and requirements for schools may be found in Section D.

Executive Order 79 (https://mcusercontent.com/5cce73ca32dfe2648ffe00182/files/d96ff0e8-3fd4-0e16-153c-0fd523c60237/Executive_order.pdf)
Our mission every year is to combat summer learning loss with morning academics that reinforce content from the school year and advance students towards their rising grade level. In the afternoons, we put on fun activities including water play in our sprinklers, sports, field trips (socially distanced) arts and crafts, and more. Each week has a theme. Please see the summer calendar below (and note that it may be subject to change depending on weather and health conditions)

If you know any families who might be interested in our program, please help us spread the word. And of course, we hope to see you there!
