Weekly Family Newsletter December 2, 2022 Week 16

It’s been a busy and exciting week at PWA! We held our Citizen Scholar Awards on Wednesday, with Mrs. Ajeroh and Dr. Harris officiating, featuring a musical performance by our 3rd and 4th graders. We had a wonderful turnout of parents there to see their children receive awards, and we’re so proud of our scholars for their Citizenship. Special thanks to our awesome music teacher, Mr. Merlin Jean-Gilles, for putting together the musical portion of this event.

Our Scholastic Book Fair kicks off next week and will run until December 14th. Please see below for more information, including our school’s homepage. On the homepage you’ll find details on how to set up an E-Wallet to allow your child to make purchases at the fair during school hours. Parents can visit the Fair in person between 3 and 6 pm M-F–just come to the front door to enter! And anyone can shop the Book Fair online so please be sure to share the link with loved ones who may want to give books this holiday season! PWA earns Scholastic dollars with every purchase, which we put towards books for our classroom and school libraries.

It’s snow season, so please take a moment to make sure you’ve signed up for our text message alert system by texting PWAED to the number 33222. This is our main form of communication in the event of a snow day or school delay, though we also send email. You’ll find more about inclement weather policies below.

Have a wonderful weekend, PWA families!

It’s time once again for the Scholastic Book Fair at PWA!

Please visit our school’s homepage via the link below for information on how to set up an E-Wallet for your student. This allows you to designate funds for your students to utilize at the Fair. You can also shop in person between 3 and 6 pm Monday through Friday until the 14th, or online anytime! Books always make great holiday gifts, and all proceeds help our school earn Scholastic dollars that enable us to enhance our school library, as well as our book collections in each classroom.

We are often asked this time of year about donations and gifts to the school, and we are always grateful for donations that will enhance our classrooms and facilities. If you would like to give to PWA this holiday season, we can always use general cleaning supplies (Lysol, disinfecting wipes, magic erasers, whiteboard cleaner) as well as items for classrooms that see a lot of wear and tear, such as crayons, pencils, markers, magnet tiles, legos, and blocks. Monetary donations are also welcome. All gifts to PWA are tax deductible with a receipt, which we will happily provide!

It won’t be long until we see some snow in our area, so please be sure to sign up for PWA’s text message alert system. Simply text PWAED to 33222 to opt in.

Please note that we do not automatically follow PWCS school closings or delays, so a snow day at the public schools may not always mean a snow day at PWA. We try to make the call as early as possible in the morning, or the night before if bad weather is already happening. In the event of a school closure or delay, we will send a text message as well as an email from the office. The safety of our students and staff members is our foremost consideration in determining whether to close in-person learning for the day.

Elementary and Middle school students will have online learning with their classroom teacher during snow days. Preschoolers will also have circle time and online lessons available. Your child’s teacher will provide more information about plans and schedules for online learning on snow days.
